Founded 2008 by Christine Goodwin in 2008, the Northumbria School of english offers a safe, friendly and welcoming learning environment, combining family atmosphere outside the classroom high professional standards within the classroom. Our professionals provide a unique mix of learning experiences for students of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Our students appreciate the attractive English seaside location, the friendliness of the northern people, the quality of life and the advantageous cost of living. Our language learning experience is connected with many opportunities to meet local residents at events, festivals and clubs and they also enjoy the shops or nightlife in Newcastle, an exciting and vibrant city which is only a short metro-ride away. We also offer a variety of social and cultural experiences, for example: visiting Hadrian's Wall, Durham Castle and Cathedral (World Heritage Sites), Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island and other treasures of Northumberland, a region which is often referred to as 'Britain's Best-kept Secret'. In addition we offer sport activities for all interests from calligraphy to surfing and abseiling as well as outings to the cinema, theatre and concerts. Our most popular programs are the General English Plus IELTS and our Junior Group Programmes but we also have a variety of specialist programmes including English Plus Film-making, English Plus Junior Reporter Skills and an Adventure Holiday at Kielder Water and Forest Park. In this lovely school I met the best teachers who taught me how can I speak English fluently as well as the best friends who came from everywhere. There're lots and lots of nationalities. In this school I found my little family I felt everyone care about the other when my birthday came the principle and my teachers and friends were celebrating and giving me lots of presents I really miss Northumbria School I promise one day I'll be back my lovely school

I did an internship for six months at the Northumbria English School in 2008. At the beginning it is always hard to learn a foreign language. Sometimes you feel like it would be a waste of time and you want to give up. But Christine always helped me, showed me my improvements and encouraged me to keep practicing. So I did not give up and my English did improve a lot. Thanks to Christine. Moreover, she did not only help me with learning English she helped me with all other problems I had while living there, too. I never felt alone. During the stay I learned the language and the culture. As I did an internship I learned about the school business and could take part in different meetings, took care of students and helped running the business. It was a very interesting and varying work! The stay was one of my best choices I have made so far and I did not regret a single moment. I would always choose to do it again. And even after more than five years we are still in touch. I can highly recommend it!

I strongly recommend the Northumbria School of English. The staff are really kind, helpful and patient. The way the teachers explain things to us is amazing! They are really creative and dynamic!
It is the second time I have attended a course there, one to one, and this time I requested a specific course, about health and safety, such as: vocabulary, reports and the basic expressions to be used at work.
And it couldn't have been a better decision!
I really appreciated it, and next year, for sure, the Northumbria School of English will be my choice again.

Northumbria School is an excellent alternative in UK to take English courses!!.
My teachers were very professional and kindly and the place is amazing. The school in Whitley Bay is near to Newcastle and has a perfect location to visit interesting places where I could see the beautiful landscape between England and Scotland during the free time.
I learned English in the classrooms and outside them sharing with kindly people of the community around the school. I strongly recommend Northumbria School for everyone that wants to improve English!!.

This is an excellent school for learning English and IELTS Preparation.
I studied with them for about 11 months, but actually I got a score of 6.5 in IELTS within 5 weeks only (I got 5.0 when I first started).
Aside from that the staff is lovely and very friendly, and there are a lot of activities that you will forget that you are in a school... it is like a picnic and it made IELTS preparation a piece of cake.
I highly recommend this school whether you intend to improve your general English skills or IELTS/academic English skills.

If I were asked, what is the best language school in England, I would say without hesitation, that it is Northumbria School of English. There are 3 aspects, that I mentioned, when I had got there for the 1st time (August 2011):
1)The quality of teaching English: interesting lessons and absolute professionals, who are extremely patient and kind. I had been doing Exam Preparation Course FCE and due to it I've achieved impressive results.
2)The atmosphere. The level of comfort and cosiness can not be described. In some time you may feel yourself like home, because Christine cares and tries to do everything so students can feel as good as possible.
3)The location. Location of the school is just perfect. Any type of transport can be easily reached (even the boat! :) )
Of course, I can't forget about great variety of breathtaking activities, during which you can make friends with other students and in the end of the day you sense that pleasant tiredness, which comes after great excursion or trip to Scotland.
I have been there twice and I feel like coming back again and again because I have fallen in love with the time spent in Northumbria School of English.

I spent two amazing months in this school . The school has realy helpful staff members who make you feel like you are one of their big family . The thing that i loved the most was that you won't feel board in your free time because of the busy schedual which was full of various activties .By the end of my two monthes , my English was improved a lot and i was thrilled by all the great things that i was able to experiance with this amazing school
